‘Unicorn Poop’ by Lorna Street Dopson is one of 20 films YOU can vote on for the 2022 Louisiana Film Prize from October 20th to the 22nd
You’re probably not (hopefully not) encountering too much of it in the park on daily dog walks, but you will find it in director Lorna Street Dopson’s 2022 short film.
Unicorn Poop.
Well, maybe. The mystery and allure of the annual Louisiana Film Prize shorts are that you’ll just have to see for yourself when the Louisiana Film Prize Festival runs from October 20th to 22nd. The festival will stream virtually and with in-person screenings at various locations in Shreveport. Unicorn Poop is fronted by the tagline “A girl makes a deal with the monster in her closet”.
Lorna Street Dopson previously won the 2020 Louisiana Film Prize (and its accompanying $25,000) for her raw and affectingly realistic look at postpartum motherhood with Untitled Post-Baby Project. We interviewed Lorna upon the release of Untitled Post-Baby Project and it’s an encouraging read for any new mothers struggling to find community and self-worth in their postpartum experience.
The Louisiana Film Prize will have its 11th birthday this year and tickets range from $30 for in-person screening passes to $350 for VIP passes. Or you can sit on your couch with a bottle of wine and fancy crackers and screen all twenty films virtually for a $50 entrance fee. And yes, you get to participate. Screening passes also give attendees the privilege to vote for their favorite film and directly influence the winner.
The three-day Prize Fest is an umbrella for a myriad of events that also include the Food Prize, the Comedy Prize, the Fashion Prize, and the Music Prize. The Film Prize Opening Party and red carpet introductions will take place Thursday, October 20th from 7-11 p.m. A series of filmmaker panels will take place at the Robinson Film Center Event Space on Saturday the 22nd.
Check the Film Prize site for further details or put on your festival-crasher outfit and show up on Texas Street on Saturday, October 22nd for the Film Prize afterparty.
