Jingle Bots AI Meetup

Volcanoes burst, mountains crumble, and amongst the eons of time, there is one constant:

Baton Rouge filmmakers meet in local pubs to discuss the craft of filmmaking.

On December 19th, 2024 from noon to 2 p.m., creators from across the filmmaking spectrum are invited to meet at The Smiling Dog in Baton Rouge to discuss the future of AI’s role in filmmaking. Fable House co-founder and visual effects magician Sam Claitor will attend and bring his knowledge of AI filmmaking tools and techniques from the perspective of visual effects pipelines. Organizer (and filmmaker himself) Nick Savides provided the full event details:

Baton Rouge, LA – This holiday season, “Jingle Bots: AI Meetup for Filmmakers, Game Designers, and FX Artists,” will help filmmakers, game designers, and content creators expand their creative potential while spreading a little holiday cheer.

This free event is scheduled to take place on December 19, 2024, from noon to 2:00 PM at The Smiling Dog, near Celtic Studios.

It is organized by local filmmaker and podcaster Nick Savides in collaboration with Curious Refuge, a leading AI training company that has been featured in The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times, Billboard, and other respected publications.

Sam Claitor, head of production at Crafty Apes and an accomplished producer and VFX artist with credits including Captain America: Winter Soldier and Game of Thrones, will make a special guest appearance.

Other Key Features:

  • Live demonstrations of AI tools for creative professionals
  • Curated showcase of a few AI-generated short films
  • Announcement of a holiday-themed AI video challenge

The event is open to professionals, enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the future of AI-enhanced creative workflows. Attendees are invited to bring laptops or tablets to participate during interactive moments.

The AI technological gap between Hollywood and indie filmmaking has closed

Across mediums, from filmmaking to writing, the use of AI in film or content creation remains a subject of passionate debate. From a “barrier to entry” perspective, Savides noted that established big-budget studios and creators have had access to AI tools and platforms that indie creators could not previously afford, from James Cameron joining the board of Stability AI to South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone opening their own AI startup, Deep Voodoo. Savides discussed the evolution of technological access:

What’s new is that indie creators have access to the same tools, and they no longer need thousands of dollars to build their own effects pipeline or hire elite out-of-state VFX studios to produce noteworthy projects. They can get access for free or just a few dollars a month.

Should the plot of I, Robot unfold mid-discussion at the December 19th event, creators are encouraged to wear their most flexible running clothes, don’t make eye contact with the robots, and order another pint.
